"otto & alwin" - sculptures

Diese beiden Figuren könnten vielleicht manchen ehemaligen Kindern der 70er und 80er Jahre noch bekannt sein. Otto & Alwin waren wiederkehrende Comichelden der Frösi, einem Pioniermagazin der DDR und wurden vom Dresdner Comiczeichner Jürgen Günter erfunden. Glücklicherweise gibt es seit einigen Jahren Nach- drucke ihrer Abenteuer, da im Gegensatz zu anderen Comics dieser Zeit, mir von den beiden nichts erhalten geblieben ist. Otto & Alwin are comic characters best known from Frösi, a monthly magazine for kids in the GDR. They were created by Jürgen Günter, a comic artist from Dresden. Luckily reprints of their adventures were published in recent years, as not one page survived from my childhood. Super Sculpey Firm Height 13cm and 7,5cm

Finally I managed to ink and "colourise" a drawing that was waiting on my desk for almost two years. It is just meant to be an exercise and I guess it will take much more than that to feel comfortable (and satisfied) enough with the style to dare starting the first comic book pages ...

plans

With the end of January approaching I realise that one month of the new year already is gone and I didn´t touch any of my personal artistic endeavours so far. Here are some of  the projects I plan to continue or even finish in 2019:     1. developing a story arc for a comic  based on this     2. pencil drawings waiting since a year to get finally inked  continuing this     3. finalise one of two comic sculptures and starting the second one     4. filling some pages in my sketchbook     5. testing my new lego-camera-dolly-slider setup outdoors old mark 1     6. mastering music tracks (starting with the early ones) and finally upload them somewhere     7. recording older guitar pieces of mine (as long as I am able to play them)     8. writing down my music for others to play and creating new music tracks     9. resuming doing plein-air paintings I quite enjoy but somehow didn´t do for a while The split between work and personal projects is not easy. Unfortunately earning money to pay the rent is more important than living out ones creativity. Nevertheless I try to get something done. What are your plans for this year?

Looking for a personal and self-made christmas gift I stumbled over the possibility to get official printed stamps with your own individual motives on them. Here I chose older artwork that seemed to work also in smaller size, just adding some corresponding text. It is not really cheap but the final print looks good and the prospect of having your own little paintings and drawings travel around the world is quite thrilling! Auf der Suche nach einem persönlichen und selbstgemachten Weihnachtsgeschenk bin ich über die Möglichkeit gestolpert, Brief- marken mit eigenen Motiven offiziell drucken zu lassen. Die ausgewählten Bilder sollten auch in kleiner Größe funktionieren und mit dem zusätzlichen Text etwas aufgewertet werden. Die ganze Sache ist nicht gerade günstig aber der finale Druck sieht gut aus und die Vorstellung, daß die eigenen kleinen Kunstwerke die Welt bereisen, ist schon spannend!

To do a comic is a dream that is still in the back of my mind. But what would it look like? The latest drawing seemed to be perfect for this comic book mockup. In this case quite aged looking...
